Self Shift Rational Meditation is a western logical analysis of eastern mediation practices. There is no belief in this work – we start with a simple question asked of your direct experience – ‘is the thought of an apple as real as the experience of an apple in your hand?’ Using deductions branching from this experience SSRM lays the groundwork for a simple, frustration-free, logic-based meditation practice anyone can do.
More than just a meditation practice, the ideas in this course are intended to fundamentally change how you operate in the world on a day-to-day basis. Under this philosophy we’re not trying to be monks completely free of the realm of thought, which is why you see me really enjoying that cigarette up there ;) We are trying to be people straddling the worlds of thought and reality with a sense of purpose and peace. The aim of this work is to allow us to love ourselves, to love life and our fellow people, to find our true purpose, to pursue it with joy, and let go of all of the bullshit that is holding us back from these aspirations.
Gone are the days of believing you are ‘not spiritual enough,’ or that your brain is just ‘too busy.’ If you can discern thought from experience, you CAN meditate successfully. But my introductory course ‘The Self Shift Sessions’ offers so much more than just giving you the skills to meditate successfully – the aim is to fundamentally change WHO you are, and HOW you interact with reality covering seven core modules:

Using direct experience we separate the elements that inform how we interpret reality - we discover that being a ‘person’ is akin to a high-wire trapeze act; it takes effort and investment to perpetuate patterns of thought and emotion that make up the ‘idea’ of ourselves – the conceptual self. Through personal experience we can discover that while all these elements of thought and feeling are changeable there is something unchanging at the core of us – the true self. By connecting to this state we can fall into the safety net beneath the trapeze act, find peace and acceptance in truth, beauty in the mundane. From this platform over the course of six weeks we not only develop a strong, rewarding meditation practice you’ll look forward to doing but pull at the threads of these implications to find a stronger grounding in reality from which to base the rest of our actions in life.
